‘Five Night at Freddy’s’ wins what should've been ‘Dune: Part Two’ weekend
With the ‘Dune’ sequel pushed to next year, the weekend lacked a major draw.

1. Five Nights at Freddy’s
Weekend gross: $19.4M
Total domestic gross: $113.6M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 76
This was not a good weekend at the box office. There have been some fantastic debuts on the first weekend of November in the past. Thor: Ragnarok with $122.7 million in 2017. Doctor Strange with $85.1 million in 2016. Eternals with $71.3 million in 2021. The Incredibles with $70.5 million in 2004. Spectre with $70.4 million in 2015.
We should be talking about Dune: Part Two’s opening weekend right now, but thanks to the studios’ unwillingness to agree to fair deals with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, Warner Bros. chose to move the second Dune movie into March 2024. (Warner Bros. missed easy money by not rereleasing the original Dune in theaters instead for anyone who missed it during its original release because of the pandemic.)
So instead, we have Five Nights at Freddy’s leading the weekend by grossing $19.4 million its second weekend. While the video game adaption crossed the $100 million mark domestically, it saw a massive 76 percent drop from its $80 million opening weekend. (Doesn’t help that the movie is also available on Peacock already.)
2. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Total domestic gross: $165.9M
Last weekend: 2nd
Percent drop: 13
It’s impressive that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has made over $165 million in North America while not having showtimes every day during the week.
3. Killers of the Flower Moon
Weekend gross: $7M
Total domestic gross: $52.3M
Last weekend: 3rd
Percent drop: 25
Killers of the Flower Moon now sits at No. 8 on Martin Scorsese’s domestic box office chart, slipping past The Color of Money ($52,293,000) and still a ways behind Hugo ($73,864,507). Apple has yet to announce when this movie will be available on Apple TV+, with its listing still advertising “coming at a later date.”
4. Priscilla
Weekend gross: $5.1M
Total domestic gross: $5.3M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA
This is technically Priscilla’s eight weekend in theaters, but according to The Numbers, it’s only been playing in four theaters a week up until now. So Popculturology is going to consider this Priscilla’s opening, which would give director Sophia Coppola the second biggest opening weekend of her career behind only the $5.4 million Marie Antoinette debuted to in 2006. (This is actually a common thing for Coppola’s films. They often have very limited releases before going wide.)
5. Radical
Weekend gross: $2.7M
Total domestic gross: $2.7M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA
Feels like every week a film that I’ve been unaware of slips into the top five. This week, it’s Radical, a Mexican film starring CODA’s Eugenio Derbez.
