Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Jan. 10-12, 2025.

1. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera

Weekend gross: $15.5M
Total domestic gross: $15.5M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Here’s a franchise that is absolutely not on my radar. I somehow missed that the first Den of Thieves even released back in 2018. Seven years later, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera debuted with $15.5 million, almost exactly matching the $15.2 million its predecessor opened with.

The Gerard Butler sequel, though, secured the No. 1 slot this weekend with that roughly $15 million haul. The original Den of Thieves landed at third, behind Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in its fifth weekend and 12 Strong.

2. Mufasa: The Lion King

Weekend gross: $13.2M
Total domestic gross: $188.8M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 44

I honestly don’t see how Disney can see Mufasa: The Lion King as a success. The “live”-action prequel has now been in theaters for four weekends and it still hasn’t even matched the $191.8 million opening weekend that Jon Favreau’s The Lion King remake debuted with in 2019.

All that CGI. All that Lin-Manuel Miranda. And this is what Disney has to show for it.
