Did I go bananas for McDonald’s Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry?
What’s the a-peel of this limited edition flavor? (This is also your warning that the classic McFlurry spoons and cups are gone.)
I love a McDonald’s milkshake. I’ve passed that passion on to our daughter, who won’t hesitate to join me in a milkshake. (She was meh on the Shamrock Shake but loves a chocolate one.) I will, however, occasionally go for a McFlurry when the mood strikes.
When putting in a food order on McDonald’s app, I noticed that there was a limited edition Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry available. While I’m traditionally an M&Ms McFlurry guy, I decided to see what this limited edition McFlurry flavor was all about.

Before we jump into my thoughts, you might have noticed that the McFlurry pictured in the above photo isn’t in the traditional McFlurry cup. Nor does it have the classic mixer spoon. In the name of sustainability and saving the environment, McDonald’s has switched up its McFlurry cups and spoons. The fast food giant notes that McFlurries “will now be served in a more environmentally friendly four-flap cup, which will help reduce waste and advance our goal of sourcing 100% of primary guest packaging from renewable, recycled or certified materials by the end of 2025.”
Thanks, environment ...
Where I found it
Like every McFlurry in the history of forever, this one is a McDonald’s exclusive.
What I paid
The Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry rang up at $4.19 at my McDonald’s.
My thoughts
McDonald’s advertises the Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry as “our signature, creamy vanilla soft serve, blended with real banana, strawberry clusters plus chocolatey, crunchy pieces of Kat Kat wafer bars in every bite.”
I’m not sure I got all the notes.
Vanilla soft serve? Check. Pieces of Kit Kats? Check. It took me a few spoonfuls to realize that there were bits of what seemed to be strawberry Rice Krispies in the mix. And most disappointingly, I never got a hint of banana.
If you’re going to market something as a banana split, it needs to have banana in it. I don’t care if it’s real banana or a nostalgia burst of that artificial banana flavor (the kind you’d get in Laffy Taffy), a banana dessert needs to hit you with banana flavor.
Final verdict: SKIP
Life is short. Too short to waste time on mediocre desserts.
Look, the Kit Kat Banana Split McFlurry isn’t a bad McFlurry. It’s still McDonald’s soft serve. They mix candy into it. It’s hard to go wrong with that combo. You just might want to bring your own banana.
