Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Aug. 2-4, 2024.

1. Deadpool & Wolverine

Weekend gross: $97M
Total domestic gross: $395.6M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 54

Deadpool & Wolverine continued to carve up the box office in the film’s second weekend in theaters. The $97 million frame is the eighth best second weekend in domestic history, taking the honor for the biggest second weekend to not crack the $100 million mark. (Inside Out 2 scored a $101.2 million second weekend just a month or so ago.)

No matter how you look at the box office numbers, Deadpool & Wolverine is another massive hit for Disney, coming right after Inside Out 2 made box office history. Deadpool & Wolverine sits at No. 12 on the MCU’s list of domestic box office performance, passing Spider-Man: Far From Home ($391.4 million) and honing in on Captain America: Civil War ($408.1 million) and Iron Man 3 ($409 million).

It’s also appropriate that the self-declared Marvel Jesus now has the biggest domestic box office haul for an R-rated movie, doing so by passing The Passion of the Christ ($370.8 million). Deadpool & Wolverine still has some work to do to claim the worldwide crown for an R-rated movie, trailing Oppenheimer ($977 million) and Joker ($1.064 billion).

2. Twisters

Weekend gross: $22.7M
Total domestic gross: $195.6M
Last weekend: 2nd
Percent drop: 35

Twisters’ box office storm has shown remarkable staying power, holding on to the No. 2 spot its third weekend in theaters. Twisters will need that staying power to top the box office performance of the original Twister movie. It still trails Twister’s domestic gross ($195.6 million to $241.7 million) and worldwide gross ($274.4 million to $495.7 million).
