Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of Sept. 13-15, 2024.

1. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Weekend gross: $51.6M
Total domestic gross: $188M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 54

The movie with a repeat name scored a repeat box office victory. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice added $51.6 million to its domestic box office haul its second weekend in theaters.

As I mentioned in last week’s edition of The Box Office Report, the sequel has already blown away every box office milestone set by the original Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sits at $188 million in North America, while its predecessor finished at $74.5 million in North American and $75.1 million worldwide. (The global box office was a very different place back in 1988, not to mention we’re dealing with almost four decades of inflation.)

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has already cracked the top ten for 2024, outperforming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ $171.1 million domestic haul.

2. Speak No Evil

Weekend gross: $11.5M
Total domestic gross: $11.5M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Folks, I read not only the Wikipedia summary for Speak No Evil but also for the Danish film that it remade, and — yeeeesshhhh — these films are just not for me. The Speak No Evil remake definitively has an audience, though, opening at No. 2 this past weekend.

Director James Watkins scored the second biggest opening weekend of his brief career, with Speak No Evil trailing The Woman in Black’s $20.9 million debut back in 2012.
