Hello! Welcome to The Box Office Report for the weekend of July 12-14, 2024.

1. Despicable Me 4

Weekend gross: $44.7M
Total domestic gross: $211.1M
Last weekend: 1st
Percent drop: 40

For the fifth weekend in a row, an animated movie sits at No. 1 at the box office. Despicable Me 4 easily held on to the top spot in its second weekend in theaters, adding $44.7 million to push its domestic total to $211.1 million.

Despicable Me 4 becomes the third movie to break the $200 million mark in North America in 2024, leapfrogging over two films that stalled out just short of that accomplishment, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire ($196.4 million) and Kung Fu Panda 4 ($193.6 million).

2. Longlegs

Weekend gross: $22.6M
Total domestic gross: $22.6M
Last weekend: New release
Percent drop: NA

Longlegs was the movie that everyone was talking about this weekend. The horror/thriller film (which I refuse to believe is not about Nicolas Cage playing a spider) grossed $22.6 million its opening weekend, which is not only a great haul for a horror film but is also the best debut for Neon, the studio behind movies like Parasite, I, Tonya and Colossal.
